The FA.comSam and Dave's Q&AFriday, 29 March, 2013England Futsal stars Sam Murphy and Dave Jennings speak from Euro QualifiersEngland's Futsal squad are currently in Turkey competing in the UEFA Futsal Euro Main Round, for the first time in their history.
And we caught up with squad members Sam Murphy and Dave Jennings as they look back on the first two games.
How are the players finding it competing at a higher level?Sam: The lads are relishing the opportunity to compete against some of the best teams in Europe. We have all learnt a lot from the two games but we are eager to push on and start getting results in a tournament environment.Dave: I think we're all finding it a rewarding experience. It's most certainly a challenge but also pleasing to know how good we are compared with the best in Europe and that we deserve to be at this level. The performance from the squad against Turkey on Thursday must have been satisfying after the disappointment against Ukraine?Sam: There are a lot of positives to take from the Turkey game but I think the lads felt like we deserved at least a point, if not more. A few crucial decisions went against us and a hostile environment meant that the tie was always going to be tough. However we performed well and relied on our cohesive strength to make it an unforgettable game.Dave: Of course, though aside from the final minute we can take many positives from the performance against Ukraine. It would have been even better had we got a result! What are the expectations going into the final game against Slovenia?Sam: Slovenia have performed very well in the competition so we know they'll be class opposition. However we have a belief in each other that we can achieve anything. If we can keep tight defensively and counter attack well, we should be able to make it a competitive fixture.
Dave: We should go in expecting the best from ourselves and each other, as well as a strong opposition. You never know how a game will go so we just need to focus on ourselves and put in the best performance we can.Posted by
