DFB Futsal Cup 2013: report and HIGHLIGHTS!

DFB Futsal Cup 2013
German Futsal Champion to be crowned in Hamburg

The 8th edition of DFB-Futsal-Cup seems to be the strongest competition in young history of German Futsal. Very close results in the semi-final stage and thrilling matches till the last second underlined the fast development of Futsal in Germany during the last years. Starting in 2006 with a final tournament of ten teams, the Cup changed its face year by year to a Futsal specialised competition with single matches and FIFA Futsal rules. Experts were not surprised to read the starting field of the DFB-Futsal-Cup bringing the top eight teams of Germany together to find the German Champion.

UFC Münster (Winner 2006, 2008), SD Croatia Berlin (Winner 2010, 2011), Hamburg Panthers (Winner 2012) and newcomer SC Bayer 05 Uerdingen are the most professional teams in the nation, dominating their regional leagues year by year. All players already gained international experience by playing UEFA-Futsal-Cup, European University Championships, "DFB Allstars matches" or playing in foreign leagues.

DFB and FIFA provided three FIFA Futsal Coaching Courses held by Benny Meurs, former belgian national coach, in 2012 and opened the window for 75 german Futsal Coaches, showing them how to coach Futsal in high level.

At present, there is no national Futsal League or National Team in Germany. Its a question of time till the Futsal Clubs will set professional structures to go this next step. The "Big Brother", 11-a-side football, still dominates the market, but the increasing number of teams, players, competitions and spectators give a positive perspective to a shining Futsal future in Germany.

The reigning Champions from Hamburg welcomed the new formed and ambitous squad from Krefeld-Uerdingen with two early counter goals. One penalty and a ten meter penalty brought the hanseatic team a comfortable 4-0 lead in front of their 500 spectators. But the squad of former Netherlands u18 Futsal National Coach, Jos van Gerven, suprised the scene by playing complete with brazilian "goleiro linha" Henrique Mota during the second half. Uerdingen scored three goals to come close to the draw. Mota hits the bar two minutes before the end. Hamburg's Monteiro scored in empty-net for his hat-trick and game winning goal 20 seconds before the end of the game. Uerdingen just needed seconds to come back to 4:5, to late. Hamburg brought it home.

The Final Match between Panthers Hamburg and UFC Münster will take place on 6th April at 19.00hrs. The winner will be the new german Futsal champion.
