Chris WildgooseMANCHESTER Futsal Club currently play in the FA National Futsal League North and finished runners-up this campaign.
Last season they won the league for the first time in their history after finishing second for two consecutive terms.
The squad currently boasts two England internationals – Stuart Cook and Ross Bond – who have represented their county on numerous occasions, most recently in the 1-0 win over Wales where Cook scored the only goal.
Manchester have lost just twice in the league since the beginning of last season and are considered to be one of the strongest forces in English futsal because of their attractive and devastating style of play. The Club is set to compete in the Super League in April and May in a bid to be crowned champions of England for the first time.
Standing in their way in Group ‘B’ are Birmingham and Helvecia – the five-time English champions and four-time winners of the FA National Futsal League South.
If Manchester win the Super League they will qualify for next season’s UEFA Futsal Cup Preliminary Round where they would face teams from across Europe in a bid to reach the next group phase.
The team is currently being coached by Australian Frank Chiarella, who took over from Marcos Leon earlier this month, and his first game at the helm is set to be against Helvecia in London. Chiarella came to Manchester as a goalkeeping coach in January but has since been appointed as Head Coach since Leon’s departure.
In September, the Club was presented with a Connell Award from City in the Community to help set up the Manchester Futsal Club Schools Youth Development Programme. The Programme was set up in order to get more youngsters involved in futsal in a bid to incorporate the skills and techniques used into 11-a-side football or to encourage players to join a futsal club at youth level.
In October, Manchester became the first English futsal club to stream a game live over the internet. It was a monumental moment for the Club in a bid to become the most reputable at attractive futsal team in the UK.
