Boro under-13s win trophy in BelgiumMIDDLESBROUGH Futsal Club were in action over the New Year when the under-13s team took part in a big European Tournament - the Squadra Mouscron Futsal Cup 2013. Some of futsal's big names were present including Luparense from Italy, Sporting Paris, Charleroi and the Iranian national team - Asia's most successful nation.
The boys finished 10th overall and won the fair play trophy but with results in the group being very close, they weren't far off the top teams, losing only 2-1 to eventual runners-up, Gyor Eto of Hungary.
Balaguer from Catalonia went on to win the under-13s tournament, beating Gyor Eto in the final 2-0 confirming that Spain are one of the leading nations when it comes to futsal. The fair play trophy was well deserved for the way the boys conducted themselves and played positive futsal.
Middlesbrough are always keen to expand the academy and are looking for children aged 5-16 to join! The club trains on a Saturday between 12 and 3pm with teams from under-7s to under-16s. Email play@borofutsal.co.uk for more information or to arrange a trial. There are plenty more travel opportunities and playing opportunities as the sport grows in England.
