Lev JacksonThis weekend the Richmond Olympic Oval will play host to the B.C. Provincial Futsal championships.
The tournament will run on Saturday and Sunday and features some of the best soccer teams the province has to offer in an indoor, 5-on-5 style game.
Both boys and girls U14 and U16 age groups will be taking part in the tournament with tier one and tier two divisions.
Tier one will feature teams from the EA Sports BC Soccer Premier League along with several BC Metro-Select teams looking to test the waters against the premier league teams.
Teams will get three round robin games, two on Saturday and one Sunday before the top two teams in each pool face-off in the championship games later Sunday afternoon.
Top teams in the U16 boys division to look out for are the U16 and U15 Fusion FC squads.
The U15 team is coming off a heartbreaking championship loss in the BC Premier League championship, losing 1-2 to Surrey FC.
The U15 Fusion FC had a 4-2-1 record the fall season. Though they fell short in the Provincial championship game, the boys will get a shot at the Futsal Provincial championship by competing an age group up.

They will finish Saturday with an all Fusion FC matchup when the U15 and U16 teams will square off at 3 p.m. is what is expected to be a spirited affair.

Much like the boys U16 division, the girls U16 tier one includes four highly regarded provincial teams, unlike the boys, all U16 girls teams competing in the pool are from the BC Premier League.
The Surrey United SC girls finished their fall season an impressive 4-1-1 and would have to be seen as the favorites going into the tournament.
The other teams competing include Coastal FC, Coquitlam Metro-Ford SC and the age-upgraded Fusion FC.
U14 tier one for both boys and girls see a similar landscape, three Premier League teams and one Metro-Select squad.
