TempoFutsal leagueManila, Philippines – The Philippine Futsal League (PFL) Futsal Luzon leg will be held next month at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium.
Twelve men and eight women teams are competing in the two months competition supported by Philippine Sports Commission and Philippine Olympic Committee.
“I assure futsal enthusiasts will enjoy watching the games because the country’s top teams are competing,” said Iranian association head Ismael Sedigh yesterday after meeting with Chairman Ricardo Garcia.
Some of the teams will be beefed up by Iranian players studying in the Philippines.
The Luzon phase is the second of the three legs nationwide program aims to promote the sport and encourage Filipinos to actively indulge in futsal.
“We’ve completed the Mindanao phase held in Butuan topped by Cagayan de Oro. We will proceed to the Visayas leg in Iloilo right after the Luzon leg,” said Sedigh, a native of Tehran married to a Filipina from Olongapo City.
The tournament is part of selection process for the national team that will see action in the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar.
