Barry & District NewsSWP officers represent the force at the World Police Futsal Games in AmsterdamA TEAM of female officers from South Wales Police have again represented the force at the World Police Futsal Games in Amsterdam.
They joined 37 teams from police forces across the globe in the annual competition, with competitors from Australia, New Zealand, Paraguay, Brazil and the Caribbean taking part in the tournament.
A squad of nine players, mainly from Central BCU, competed well in a number of close matches and eventually came out in ninth position.
Barry-based DC Judith Nunn, who captained the team, said: “This is the biggest competition of its kind. Almost 3,000 colleagues from all over the world took part in the 30th World Police Indoor Soccer Tournament.
“As well as competing against some individual force teams, we came up against a number of national police squads, including both finalists Spain and France, and acquitted ourselves well in all our matches.
“We had to raise the funds to attend the competition ourselves and we are very grateful to our team sponsor, Dunraven Windows from Pyle, who were extremely generous in their support.”
The team consisted of DC 4649 Judith Nunn (Captain), DC Miriam Purple, PC Liz Window, PC Louise England, PC Nicola Grey, PC Debbie Robbins, PCSO Nerys Lloyd, PS Nia Hughes and PS Elen Reeves.
