Chichester ObserverFootball’s off - let’s play futsal insteadThursday 20 December 2012With the widespread postponement of games across West Sussex on Saturday because of waterlogged pitches, players from Chichester City, Selsey and East Preston took the chance to try their hands at futsal in the newly-opened Sports Dome at the University of Chichester.
Futsal is a fast-paced, small-sided version of the 11-a-side game which relies heavily on skill and technique.
The opportunity for a number of County League players to try it helped promote the launch of a Futsal Fives League early in the new year that is being supported through a partnership between the Sussex County FA and the University of Chichester.
Perry Northeast, club captain at Chichester City and active sports officer at the university, said: “Although it was frustrating not being able to play our league game against Pagham, the opportunity to play futsal and to invite players from other County League clubs in a similar position to ourselves enabled us to have an enjoyable Saturday afternoon and experience what a great game futsal can be.”
