Bermuda Football Association’s (BFA) National Academy teams made winning starts to their inaugural season in the Women’s Futsal League at the weekend.

The Academy’s Blue, White and Red teams all laid down early season markers after recording emphatic victories at Dellwood Middle School Gym.

In the evening’s opening match the Academy Blues hammered Hamilton Parish 15-2 with Ky’anah Outerbridge, Leanne Yates and Jaylen Bean all netting hat-tricks. Outerbridge led the way with four goals while Yates and Bean netted three apiece.

Others on target for the Blues were Precious Cooper who scored a brace and Kascia White while Sia Spence and Suzette Albouy replied for a Parish side that was simply out of their depth.

The second match proved to be another lopsided affair as the Academy Whites took full advantage of a Young Men’s Social Club team that failed to field a full complement of players. The Academy Whites romped to an emphatic 20-1 win with Zahrah Gibbons netting a double hat-trick. Jadae Steede-Hill, Aliyah Nolan and Micah Pond each netted four goals while Symira Lowe-Darrell added a brace.

Satyrah Robinson replied for a Bluebirds team that leaked in 13 goals in the second half.

The final and most exciting match of the evening saw the Academy Reds thump Somerset Cricket Club 11-2. Khyla Brangman led the Reds scoring with four goals, Jessica Furtado scored three, Kashintae Fox added a brace while Zakiya Maynard and Tschana Wade netted one apiece.

Deshae Darrell and Dazhja Greaves replied for a youthful Somerset team who performed better than the final scoreline suggests.

“Somerset’s young team matched their more highly rated opponents for parts of the game, although the final score would indicate otherwise,” said league president Peter Sousa. “The National Academy Reds showed their experience however, by never letting Somerset build any momentum and were clinical in front of the goal.”

Sousa said Somerset’s goalkeeper Chelsea Harvey was also outstanding.

There are approaximately one hundred players among six teams competing in the 2012-13 Women’s Futsal League now in its second year.

North Village Lady Rams are the defending champions.

The Women's Futsal League will break for the Christmas Holiday and resume in January with matches to be held on the 12th and 13th at Dellwood Middle School Gym, beginning at 5pm.
