FC Baku's form continues upward trendFC Baku United won 4-0 against Baltic in the South Division of the English Futsal League this week. The goals were scored by Juan Galicia, Doug Reed, Elizandro Lima and Ivan Silva. This takes them into 3rd place behind London Utd and reigning champions Helvecia.
After a spluttering start Baku’s performances have shown significant improvement as the season has gone on. With a new team and new players they found in difficult to find their rhythm at the beginning of the season and their results reflected this. The majority of the squad is made up of foreigners from Portugal, Brazil and Spain. They recently reinforced the team with the signings of English internationals Doug Reed, James Dalton and Sam Murphy. Former Inter Movistar coach Chema Jimenez was hired as head coach to turn this group of talented players into a team. These additions have been the crucial factor that has seen the team climb the table.
They are now showing signs that they can fight for the championship come the end of the season though progress will still need to be made to achieve this. They have two months to do this before the regular season ends and the playoffs begin. If they continue the same rate of improvement then they will be one of the favourites come the end of the season.
