Talented twins to take on best in the world

FUTSAL players Brady and Reiley Mason are only 12-years-old but they are already preparing to take on the best in the world.

The Toowoomba twins were selected to represent Australia for a 16-day tour of Barcelona, Spain in May next year.

Barcelona is a hot bed of futsal talent and the team will play matches against local schools and meet some of the stars of the sport.

Brady and Reiley have enjoyed a fast rise to the top after only making their first Queensland side last year.

But they didn't get the chance to play any games with that team after other players had to pull out so the brothers said they were really excited to be heading overseas.

"It should be pretty tough. We don't really know what to expect yet but it's gonna be fun," Brady said.

"We already know a couple of players from the Queensland comp in the team," Reiley added.

The twins got their start playing outdoor soccer and have both been selected for the APL side for next season.

While their long-term goal is to play for the Socceroos, Brady said playing on the indoor courts for futsal was an exciting way to sharpen their skills.

"They're quicker and faster games," he said.

"You get the ball back quicker and there's more action and more goals."

The trip to Spain may not be the boys only international experience next year with Reiley invited to attend a specialist goalkeeping camp in the UK.

Reiley mainly plays as a goalkeeper in futsal and said the skills he'd learned had also helped improve his outdoor game.

"Usually I was goalkeeper and I couldn't really kick a soccer ball. Since playing futsal, I'm kicking a lot better now," he said.

"It's a smaller area indoors so you get to talk a lot more too. You don't have to yell."

Half the battle will be getting to Spain and the twins will have to do plenty of fundraising for the trip including a banquet next February.

Brady and Reiley were determined to realise their dream and they've also started learning a bit of the local language to prepare.

"We've been learning a little bit of Spanish. We'll probably need it," Reiley said.
