Technical enhancements discussed

Tuesday, 27 November 2012

Kuala Lumpur: The AFC Technical Committee, which met on Tuesday under the chairmanship of Japan’s Kohzo Tashima, approved a new advanced coaching programme for 2013.

The programme, which will be called ‘AFC Coach Asia’ is open to MA nominated AFC ‘A’ Coaching Certificate holder coaches and will have Pro-Diploma modules and Instructor Training Course spread over 18 months.

At the outset, AFC Acting President Zhang Jilong asked the members to continue playing their key role in further development of Asian football.

“Development is an important part of football and you have the expertise to guide us technically,” he said.

“Asian football is moving forward and our Member Associations are more active now. Asia is the future and it is now in your hands,” he told the members.

Tashima said this committee is important for the future of Asian football and more needs to be done to raise the technical standards of Asian teams.

“Asian teams have shown their mettle at the world stage this year but I think we should not sit on the laurels and work towards further improvement,” he said.

The main strategies of the Technical Division will be to focus more on delivering Regional MA Instructor Training Courses and Quality Assurance on AFC Courses in MAs. “This will provide MAs with the capacity to schedule and deliver local courses by means of locally trained and qualified instructors.”

The committee approved the AFC Coaching Courses for2013 of Member Associations, competency measures for AFC Coaching Courses, AFC Pro-Diploma Course and AFC Instructors criteria. Progression timelines and assessment in AFC Coaching Courses were also approved.

The members also discussed the establishment of an AFC Coaching Convention, fast-tracking guidelines of former national players attending coach education courses, minimum coaching requirements in AFC competitions, AFC futsal/beach soccer development programmes, AFC Grassroots Projects, recognition of experience and current competence for coaches and testing and monitoring of correct age at AFC competitions.

All decisions of this committee need to be ratified by the AFC Executive Committee to take effect.
