The AFC.com2012 AFC Award CategoriesFriday, 23 November 2012AFC Diamond of AsiaThis is the most prestigious AFC award bestowed upon an individual for exemplary contribution towards the development and promotion of football, on and off the field within the Asian continent.
This honour may be conferred for a single contribution of great importance or for ongoing contributions throughout a number of years and is a way for AFC to acknowledge the recipient's sterling services. The award is given annually and always to one person - selected by the AFC Executive Committee - each year.
The recipient of this accolade enjoys a distinguished position within AFC, and is entitled to special privileges, including invitations to all AFC competitions and to all AFC official functions and events. Furthermore, the recipient ranks only after the AFC Executive Committee in terms of importance within AFC's protocol and hierarchy.
This highly coveted AFC Diamond of Asia Award is always presented by the AFC President.
AFC Dream Asia AwardAFC has decided to start a new award to expand the values of Dream Asia, AFC’s Social Responsibility initiative, and create awareness of this campaign. This award can be given to an individual, corporate or an NGO for their contribution to AFC’s involvement in social development.
This award highlights the values of football as a tool for social change, enlighten the importance of Social Responsibility by discovering those individuals, coportates and NGOs and promote the culture of giving.
AFC Association of the YearIt is given to a Member Association in recognition of its exceptional contribution to the development and promotion of the game within their country particularly in the areas of (but not limited to):
Grassroots and youth development
Clubs and national league development
Participation in continental and world-wide competitions
Professionalisation of its administration and governance
AFC Fair Play Association of the YearThis award is given to the Member Association which has accumulated the most Fair Play points within a calendar year.
Fair Play points are given to all Member Association whose:
National teams (all age-groups) participate in AFC competitions
Club teams participate in AFC club competitions - AFC Champions League, AFC Cup and the AFC President's Cup
Fair Play points are given by the Match Commissioner in each match based on :
The number of yellow cards collected in the match
The number of red cards collected in the match
Positive play
Conduct on and off the field
Behaviour of team's fans
AFC Club Team of the YearPresented to the club with the most outstanding performance at the AFC Champions League, Asia's premier club tournament. Accomplishments in this tournament combined with other records are taken into consideration for this award.
AFC Futsal Team of the YearPresented to the team which turns out the most outstanding performance at the AFC and/or FIFA Futsal competitions.
AFC National Team of the Year - MenThis award is presented to a men's national team in recognition of its outstanding performances in both AFC and FIFA competitions.
AFC National Team of the Year - WomenPresented to the women's national team which has performed outstandingly in AFC and/or FIFA Competitions.
AFC Assistant Referee of the Year - MenThis award is given to an assistant referee who has performed consistently at an outstanding level in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Assistant Referee of the Year - WomenThis award is given to an assistant referee who has performed consistently at an outstanding level in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Referee of the Year - MenThis award is given to a referee who has performed consistently at an outstanding level in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Referee of the Year - WomenThis award is given to a referee who has performed consistently at an outstanding level in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Coach of the Year - MenThis award is given to a coach in recognition of his exceptional contribution to the performances and results of the team, management skills, consistency and stability and fair play attitude.
The coach must be an Asian national
The coach must be in charge of an Asian team (all age-groups) which has participated in AFC competitions and/or FIFA competitions in the calendar year
AFC Coach of the Year - WomenThis award is given to a coach in recognition of her exceptional contribution to the performances and results of the team, management skills, consistency and stability and fair play attitude.
The coach must be an Asian national
The coach must be in charge of an Asian team (all age-groups) which has participated in AFC competitions and/or FIFA competitions in the calendar year
AFC Youth Player of the Year - MenPresented to a youth player who has performed outstandingly well in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Youth Player of the Year - WomenPresented to a youth player who has performed outstandingly well in AFC and/or FIFA competitions.
AFC Futsal Player of the YearPresented to a futsal player who has performed outstandingly well in the biennial AFC and/ or FIFA Futsal competitions.
AFC Foreign Player of the Year (Male)The “AFC Foreign Player of the Year” will be awarded to the best non-Asian player who plays in the AFC Champions League or AFC Cup.
The Man of the Match for AFC Champions League receives 15 points while for AFC Cup, the Man of the Match receives 10 points. A shortlist of nominees will be created based on the total points garnered by the foreign players nominated as Man of the Match.
The selection of the Man of the Match is done by Match Commissioner (MC) and AFC Technical Analysts (AFC TA).
If the Man of the Match selected is Asian, AFC TA will still check if a foreign player was outstanding during the game
If the Man of the Match for the ACL and AFC Cup chosen by MC is different from the AFC TA, a third analyst will be tasked to review the match and choose either of the two chosen by the MC or TA.
The achievements of the player/teams will be one of the main criteria in the selection process from the beginning.
Fair Play is also part of the criteria whereby 10 points will be deducted for Red Card and 5 points will be deducted for yellow card.
The number of goals scored (for strikers and midfielders only) will be considered when there is a tie.
A panel of Technical Experts will be tasked to pre-select the nominated players and come up with possible Foreign Player of the Year selection scenarios.
Nominated player must be present at the Awards Ceremony.
AFC Asian International Player of the Year (Male)The award will be given to an outstanding Asian player who plays in leagues in other confederations covering the period from 01 December of previous year (to include Club World Cup) to 15 November of the current year.
The following will be considered in the selection of the candidates :
Level of International Club Competition (i.e. Club World Cup, Confederation Competition)
Level of the Domestic League Competition (i.e. Spain’s La Liga, English Premier League, Germany’s Bundesliga, and Italy’s Serie A are to be considered as the top 4 in the world).
Quality and performance of the Team.
Attributes that add value to the Team’s performance.
Players’ statistics (Number of Minutes played, Goals Scored, Cards, etc.)

Performance in National Team Duty
A selection panel composed of three (3) members will be formed to create the short-list based on the above considerations. The members of the panel would come from the football media personality who cover leagues from other parts of the world as follows:
Football media personality with general coaching or playing experience.
Football media personality with playing experience at the high level and a general coaching experience.
Football media personality with coaching experience at the high level.
The short-list will then be reviewed by a Technical Panel of experts as formed by AFC.
Nominated player must be present at the Awards Ceremony.
AFC Woman Player of the YearThe award is given to the most outstanding player who has performed consistently at AFC and/or FIFA Competitions based on feedback from the Technical Study group. The player must fulfill the following criteria:
Must be an Asian
Must play in AFC or should have represented Asia in FIFA Competitions
Must be able to attend the AFC Annual Awards
AFC Asian Player of the Year
The “AFC Asian Player of the Year” will be awarded only to Asian players playing in Asia.
The point system will be used to determine a shortlist of nominees. The current point system gives corresponding points to the Man of the Match depending on the competition, as follows:
Competition Points
World Cup (Finals) : 60
World Cup (Round 4) : 25
World Cup (Round 3) : 20
Asian Cup (Finals) : 40
Asian Cup Qualifiers (final round) : 20
Olympics : 40
AFC Champions League : 15
AFC Cup : 10
