Lawrence MachadoKELLYVILLE High School have been crowned Australasian girls Futsal champions for the fourth time.
The undefeated team, which has been together for the past six years under Australian and NSW futsal coach Fabio Caprarelli , have swept all before them, with four national, six state and six regional championships also in their bulging trophy cupboard.
Kellyville High School outclassed Santa Monica in the Australasian final 4-2 with Maddy Gordonvoted the goalkeeper of the tournament.
"I can sum up the reason for their amazing success in one word: commitment," their coach said.
The all-Kellyville-based team is skippered by our Junior Sports Star nominee Angela Mokhtar, and includes Sarah Mokhtar, Shayna Killey, Sheridan Kuiper, Rebecca Perry, Maddy Daly, Maddy Gordon and Shaza Smit.
In six years, the team won a staggering 400 games, losing just seven with Shayna Killey being their top striker. This is probably the last time the team will play under the school banner again but are keen to compete together in the future.
"They train five times a week and I have formed a strong relationship with the girls and their families," Caprarelli said.
"As such I am very sad to see them leave but thankful that they literally came knocking on my door six years ago asking me to coach them.
"One of the things I remember doing with them was writing down some goals of where we wanted to be - things we wanted to achieve. We have surpassed all expectations."
* The Kellyville High School junior boys team will be competing in the Australasian futsal championships this weekend.
