Bahrain News AgencyFirst Bahrain Women's Games announce the schedule of the Futsal Championship12/11/2012Manama, Nov. 12 (BNA) - The Organising Committee of the First Bahrain Women’s Games announced the schedule of the Five-A-side Futsal Championship starting tomorrow.
Eight teams are in the fray for the Five-A-side Futsal Championship, the penultimate event of the Games, which is part of the annual Bahrain Women’s Day.
The teams were divided into two groups of four. Group ‘A’ consists of Arsenal ‘Yellow’, Riffa, Arsenal ‘Red’ and Hamad Town. Bahrain’s Under-16 team, Joga Bonito (The Beautiful Game), Happy Feet and Defence Ministry will play in Group ‘B’.
To be staged at the Khalifa Sports City Gym in Isa Town, the tournament gets underway with two matches on the cards.
Riffa and Arsenal ‘Yellow’ face off in the tournament opener at 5.30pm. It will be followed by Arsenal ‘Red’ vs Hamad Town game at 7pm.
On Thursday, Bahrain’s Under-16 team begin their campaign against Joga Bonito at 5.30pm, then Happy Feet play Defence Ministry at 7pm.
The first round ends on Monday, with each group winners and runners-up progressing into the semi-finals knock-out round on November 20. The final will be played the following day at 7pm.
Meanwhile, registration is underway for the athletic events, taking place later this month. The first event will be Cross Country, scheduled for Saturday, will be over three-km and is set to begin at 3pm from the Princess Sabeeka Garden in Awali.
Bahrain Athletics Association member and former Arab athletic champion Ruqaya Al Ghasra said the participants will be divided into five different age group categories. They are under-15, under-20, under-30, under-40 and above 41 years.
Al Ghasra said the committee supervising the race has already reached an agreement with the Health Ministry to send a medical team to attend the event and provide health check-ups and nutrition advices for participants.
She said that valuable cash prizes have been allocated for the top three athletes in each age category, to be honoured at the closing ceremony right after the event.

There are eight sporting disciplines in total at the first edition of the Bahrain Women's Games, taking place on the occasion of the Bahrain Women's Day celebration.
Other sporting competitions are volleyball, basketball, table tennis, bowling, shooting and disabled sports.
The Women's Games is being organised by the Supreme Council for Women in co-operation with the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
The event is being held under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty King Hamad and President of the Supreme Council for Women.
The fifth edition of the Bahrain Women's Day 2012 will be put under the slogan ‘Woman and Sport: Will ... Achievement …Aspirations’.
This year's slogan is in recognition of Bahraini women's history of landmark sport achievements in national, regional and international arenas.
