Thailand advances in Futsal Cup

Thailand has advanced beyond the first round at the Fifa Futsal World Cup for the first time after the Solomon Islands claimed their first-ever win in the tournament.

The Solomon Islands upset Guatemala on Friday with a 4-3 victory at Hua Mark Indoor Stadium.

The win guarantees Thailand will advance to the second round for the first time in four appearances, as one of the four best third-place teams.

Thailand did not get an automatic berth in the next round after losing 3-2 to Paraguay on Wednesday in its final group match and had to wait for the results of other group matches on Friday.

The second round begins on Sunday.
