The NewsKMC complex to have futsal arena, bowling alley soonby
Syed Intikhab AliWednesday, November 07, 2012KARACHI: The process of adding facilities at the KMC-owned Kashmir Road sports complex is in the final stage as the Sindh government has allocated Rs180 million for this purpose, ‘The News’ has learnt.
Sources in the KMC said that Sindh government’s relevant departments were working on the project and it had also been included in the DDWP.
They revealed that Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan has directed that the sports facilities at Kashmir Road sports complex be upgraded.
He is taking personal interest in providing maximum sports facilities to sportsmen and sportswomen of the city.
The KMC administrator Muhammad Hussain Syed conceived the plan to upgrade the sports facilities at the complex and gave clear cut directives to sports department to work to make the place a permanent sports paradise instead of a marriage garden.
Senior director of KMC sports and culture department Rehan Khan told ‘The News’ that they are going to develop grounds for football and hockey, a tartan track, a bowling alley, a futsal arena, a badminton court, an athletic volleyball court and three cricket practice pitches. He mentioned that the existing sports facilities such as the swimming pool and four tennis courts would not be touched in the new plan.
The Sindh government is financing the projects under its ADP 2012-13. Sources said that other important aspect of this project is that a shaded pavilion for more than 200 spectators and toilet facilities would also be established.
The location of the pavilion is just in front of the hockey, football and athletics facilities. Khan confirmed that there would be a tartan track, not a sandy one.
