Wauchope GazetteWilliams makes Australian all-stars Futsal teamOct. 31, 2012WAUCHOPE High School student Georgia Williams has gained selection in the under 14 Australian All Stars representative team.
Williams is one of five players presented the coveted red All Stars selection jersey and will play for Australia in the 2013 Women's Junior World Cup in Columbia next year.
The under 15 NSW captain Shelby Coleman from Kempsey was also selected as an Australian All Star in the U/15 side.
Williams gained selection in the line-up following her impressive performances captaining the NSW under 14 girls side in the Australian Futsal Championships held in Townsville earlier this month.
Fellow high school student, Vaida Shaw, also represented NSW in the under 15 girls side. Both girls gained selection as field players and played strong in defensive roles.
Williams's side lost its opening two games - 10-1 to the gun Queensland City side and 7-6 to Queensland Country - before defeating North Queensland 4-1 and securing a 2-2 draw with the highly fancied Queensland Metro side on day two of competition.
A 6-2 win in the opening match of day three against South West Queensland put the NSW side into the major semi final against their round one nemesis Queensland City.
Williams led from the front in the match, picking up a yellow card early in the game, to have her side 3-2 leaders with five minutes remaining.
However a late goal and then a dot shot ended the NSW side's chances of playing in the final.
Queensland City went on to claim the National title with a 4-3 win over Queensland Metro in the final.
Shaw's debut in the under 15s side - where she also teamed up with Williams - was strong making solid efforts at the breakdown of many attacking raids on the NSW goal.
Vaida's skills on the court and structural knowledge improved with every match played. Vaida suffered a "Hamstring" injury midway through the competition and although in a lot of pain, rallied on to play strongly in all of the remaining matches.
The under 15s defeated Queensland Country 3-0 and 5-0, lost 9-4 and 5-2 to Queensland City, lost 8-4 and 5-2 to North Queesland Ayr, lost 6-4 to North Queensland before turning the tables to record a solid 8-5 victory.
That placed NSW in third position on goal averages and set up a semi final clash against Queensland City. The northern based side went on to claim a win 4-2 before going down 6-4 in the final to North Queensland Ayr.
