The CourierFutsal pair to represent Victoriaby
Nicole CairnsNov. 1, 2012With the Futsalroos in Thailand to compete in the World Futsal Cup, it may not be long before Ballarat’s Jason Spirovski and Tina Benoit join them, after being selected to represent Victoria in futsal.
The pair will play in the 31st Football Federation Australia’s futsal national championships in Canberra in January.
Benoit, a Lady Devils player, was part of the open women’s team last year, but the team was unable to compete in the championships. These championships have been two years in the making for Benoit.
“I had been looking forward to the trials since last year,” she said. “Most of the players in the team play in the Victorian Premier League so the standard of play is very high.
“I also play in the men’s competition here in Ballarat, so that will prepare me well for the speed of the game.”
Although Spirovski has played outdoor soccer for Victoria before, this will be his first competition representing Victoria in futsal.
“It’s such a great privilege and opportunity to play for your state,” he said.
The 15-year-old Ballarat High School student will play for the under-16 team, which has already begun training together.
Futsal Ballarat director Andrew Burgess said both Jason and Tina have worked really hard on their game and deserve this opportunity.
