San Francisco GateFutsal World Cup venue misses more deadlinesWednesday, October 31, 2012BANGKOK (AP) — FIFA says its intended Futsal World Cup final venue in Thailand has no pitch and no safety certificate ahead of the tournament kicking off on Thursday.
FIFA says the Bangkok Futsal Arena will undergo a final inspection next Monday.
Nine days later it is scheduled to host a quarterfinal in the 24-team competition. Group-stage games have been switched to another venue.
Local tournament organizers blamed heavy rains and flooding for missed construction deadlines at the $40 million, 12,000-capacity arena.
FIFA says the latest plan includes submitting "an emergency evacuation plan, the provision of an insurance policy to cover all risks, and the finalization of a CCTV security system."
Options to install a pitch by Monday include importing one from Italy or China, which requires special customs clearance.
