CONCACAFFutsal Update: Panama tops Malaysia; Mexico stays unbeatenAfter taking third at the 2012 CONCACAF Futsal Championship and qualifying for next month's FIFA Futsal World Cup, Panama earned its first-ever win outside the confederation's borders on Wednesday, topping Malaysia, 4-1, in a friendly held in Bangkok, Thailand.
Miguel Lasso, who was the top scorer at the CONCACAF tournament, led the Canaleros with two goals (10', 23'), while Edgar Rivas (15') and Enrique Valdes (38') each added one in the victory.
"This victory is for the fans," said Lasso, the top scorer at July's CONCACAF tournament. "It was a good game, never underestimate an opponent. We're going to do fine at the World Cup."
Becoming only the fourth CONCACAF nation to win a futsal match on Asian soil, Panama will continue its preparation for the Futsal World Cup with two friendlies at Thailand (October 27 and 29) and another against the Czech Republic (October 31).
On Tuesday, Mexico remained unbeaten during its five-match tour of Spain, playing local side Escuela Javier Limones FS to a 2-2 draw in Torrejón de Ardoz.
Francisco Cati (8') and Jorge Rodriguez (11') each scored for the Tricolores, which improved to two victories and two draws. They will conclude on Wednesday against Brihuega FS.
