Arena Sukan’s annual Junior Futsal Tourney is back

KUCHING: The eagerly awaited Arena Sukan’s fifth annual Junior Futsal Tournament aims to attract a bigger number of participating teams this year.

“Over the last four years, we had seen an increasing and encouraging number of participation from youths aged ten to 17-years-old. Last year, more than 100 teams participated. This year, we are expecting keener interest and greater participation,” a spokesman from Arena Sukan said yesterday.

The matches will be held on Saturday, Nov 24 (for Under-12 category); Sunday, Nov 25 (Under-15) and Saturday, Dec 15 (Under-17).

All matches, to be held at Arena Sukan Sports Complex, Jalan Wan Alwi, off Simpang Tiga roundabout, will start at 8am and end at 5pm daily on the specified dates.

“Each team shall comprise seven players and a captain. Each participant will receive a specially designed, limited edition Junior Futsal Tournament 2012 tee-shirt as well as other attractive gifts,” the spokesman added.

The winners in the U-12 category will receive cash prizes of up to RM2,000 plus medals while winners in the U-15 category, cash prizes up to RM2,800 plus medals. The winners in the U17 category will be bringing home cash prizes of up to RM2,800 plus medals.
The registration fee for U-12, U-15 and U-17 is RM200, RM250 and RM250 per team respectively.

Other highlight at the tournament will be the “Fun Kick” event which is kicking a futsal ball into a mini goal post where winners will also bring home prizes.

Registration for all categories is now open. Teams may register at Arena Sukan Sports Complex starting at 9am to 12 midnight.
