Bangkok Post (click here to watch the video as well!)Governor sleeps at Bangkok Futsal Arena16/10/2012Bangkok governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra slept at the construction site of the long-delayed Bangkok Futsal Arena last night to give moral support to Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) officials and workers.
MR Sukhumbhand was joined by City Hall executives following an inspection of the 12,000-seater arena under construction in Nong Chok district.
The inspection team spent the night at a dormitory opposite the construction site that belongs to the BMA's Training and Development Institute and accommodates BMA officials taking training courses. Dinner was also provided for management and some 3,000 workers working round the clock to try and meet the construction deadline. The Bangkok Futsal Arena is intended to be the main venue for when Thailand hosts the 2012 Fifa Futsal World Cup from Nov 1-18.
A series of construction delays have cast doubt on whether it will be finished in time, but MR Sukhumbhand insists the stadium will be ready by the Oct 21 deadline. Video by Chumporn Sangvilert.
