Manly DailyAustralia futsal: Viking gods smile on Josh11 OCT 12by
Andrew PrenticeIF the footballing gods behave themselves, Bayview's Josh Yeates is in for a bumper fortnight.
The 22-year-old is in America with the Australian men's Vikings futsal squad competing in the Pacific Games.
On Sunday his Pittwater RSL FC Premier League teammates will attempt to qualify for consecutive Champion of Champion finals at Valentine Sports Park next weekend.
Missing the semi-final with his 10 mates in green to compete abroad was a no brainer, with Yeates buzzing to don the green and gold.
"Representing your country in any sport is a massive honour, when I was picked it took a while to sink in," he said.
"I enjoy playing both types of football, it keeps me fit and motivated."
Yeates began his futsal journey with the Northern Beaches Breakers before moving to Maccabi and Ryde Phoenix, who play in the NSW Premier League.
He caught the eye of national selectors following a number of stellar performances against the best indoor players in NSW.
When it comes to his future, Yeates knows consistency is the key.
"I haven't really thought too far ahead, my focus is playing well in the Pacific Games," he said.
"Hopefully the Pittwater boys win, it would make for a big couple of weeks."
