New Straits TimesFamiliarity brings success!06 October 2012THE two teams were regular opponents in futsal tournaments and this gave Cha Cha the winning edge over MBC A as they bagged the grandfinal of the Revive-Sports Planet Ultimate Champions League 2012.
KUALA LUMPUR: Led by team captain Jamaludin Alias, a regular face on the local futsal circuit, Cha Cha looked the more prepared and overcame MBC A 1-0 in the Men's Open category to walk away with the cash prize of RM7,000.
"We always seem to meet MBC in futsal tournaments, and familiar with their style of play. It gave us the upper hand in the final," said Jamaludin after the final at Sports Planet Ampang.
"But it was a close match, nonetheless, as proved by the final score."
The 37-year-old made it a tournament to remember when he banked in RM200 after being named the best player in the men's open category.
Zulkifli Mohd Amin of MBC (A) was named best Goalkeeper and also bagged RM200.
MBC A, who appeared to be the favourites to win the Men's Open title after a 5-0 win over BBFC in the semifinals, had to settle RM4,000 as runers-up.
BBFC defeated Playground 3-2 in the third placing match to take home RM2,000.
In the Under-17 category, Zitos beat KSC Bangsarianz 1-0 to secure RM1,500.
KSC Bangsarians took home RM700 while Court Soccer earned RM400 after beating MBC Junior 3-2 on penalties to finish third.

"It's great to note that the response to this tournament continues to be overwhelming, even after five years," said executive director of Sports Planet Wong Horr Wai.
"We're also delighted that its stature and popularity as one of the premier tournaments and a key fixture on the local futsal calendar in Malaysia remains intact and keeps on growing in strength over the years, as shown by the increasing number of participating teams."
"This tournament intends to provide young Malaysians nationwide a platform to hone their competitive skills in order for them to shine at future national or even international-level championships," said Permanis Sdn Bhd vice-president of marketing Hemalatha Ragavan.
The fifth edition of the tournament, where Revive isotonic is the title sponsor, attracted 48 teams.
