Swindon to give local youngsters a footballing education

Saturday 22nd September 2012

A GROUP of 34 new scholars have joined Swindon Town Football in the Community Trust’s BTEC level Football and Futsal Programme.

The course is run in partnership with the Football League, and the scholars will complete an extended diploma in sports performance and excellence whilst receiving expert coaching and competing in regional Futsal and Football competitions.

The scholars, 23 boys and 11 girls, will spend eight hours per week in the classroom, studying a range of sports based topics including anatomy and physiology, sports psychology, coaching sciences and lifestyle of the elite athletes.

Students will receive an equal amount of time on the training pitch improving their knowledge, understanding and performance in football and Futsal whilst working towards achieving their Football Association Level One and Level Two coaching qualifications.

Community trust education and development officers Adam Tribbick and Luke Sharps will support and encourage the students both in the classroom and on the pitch, and will help them gain the tools necessary to gain places in higher education and increase their employability when they leave the course.

Whilst the course places heavy emphasis on football and Futsal, there are also options available for the scholars to attend coach development workshops, become qualified in a range of other sports and develop their knowledge in other roles within sport.

Community Trust Managers Clive Maguire and Jon Holloway have spent months tirelessly working with the Football League Trust, Swindon Academy and Croft Sports Centre to provide students with an exciting new option for further education, and their thoughts will soon start to turn to recruiting students for a September 2013 start.

For any queries about entry onto the course in September 2013 please contact Adam Tribbick on 01793 421303 or email adam@stfc-fitc.co.uk.
