Byron Andrew stole the show on his Helvecia debut, as the reigning champions kicked off their FA National Futsal League Division One South campaign with a 9-0 demolition of Kickers.

The former Genesis man, who joined the five-time National champions this summer, looked lively and energetic in his first Helvecia outing, whilst his sharp shooting epitomised his side’s ruthless performance.

Just weeks after having a number of key members of his side including captain Vitor Rodrigues leave for Baku United, Ronaldo Negrao’s new look squad were in a very unforgiving mood.

As well as Andrew’s flurry, key man Ben Mortlock capped an impressive individual display with a goal, too. Ediel Oliveira, Douglas Pavanello and new boy Eduardo Carlos, a player with LNFS experience, rounded off Helvecia’s rout.

The huge opening day win gave Ronaldo’s men an early advantage in Division One South, albeit on goal difference.

Elsewhere in the South, James Rosa’s London United began their campaign with a very impressive 8-2 victory over a depleted Genesis side.

Division Two champions Kaunas were victorious over West London to make it three teams on three points at the top of the table. The promoted side ran out 12-5 winners to put themselves second in the table.

In the Southern League’s other fixture, Baku United couldn’t turn their array of individual talent into a victory, as they came from behind to snatch a point from a very effective FC Baltic unit.

They will be hoping that they can build on their opening day draw when they entertain West London next Sunday.
