Saturday sees the start of the Italian Seria A1 Futsal League with reigning champions, Luparense, the team to beat. Among the challengers is MONTESILVANO who reached the semi-final in 2011. For the fourth consecutive year the team from the Abruzzo region will have AGLA as their kit sponsor, with whom they became champions of Europe. The team have confirmed that coach Antonio Ricci has renewed his contract and the arrivals of Ivan Alves Junior, Oscar Velazquez, the promising Bocao, captain of the Brazilian U21 national team and Rafael Tosta. Some big names have departed including Caputo, Rogerio and Garcias. The pre-season has already given indication that the team is moving in the right direction.

Interview with Montesilvano coach Antonio Ricci.

What is Montesilvano’s goal for the season?
The important thing is to reach the final eight of the Italian Cup and win the championship playoffs. The are other teams that have stronger squads than ours so it will be difficult to excel in the regular championship but once you reach the knockout stage these differences are eliminated.

How would you evaluate the pre-season?
I am pleased with the friendly games but we must not relax and let our guard down. I believe we have a good group but the players have only played together for just over a month. There have been many changes in the team and this will be a challenge to resolve. Anyway the players have shown a desire to work and an ability to react when going a goal down and these are very positive signs.

What is your view on the transfers made by MONTESILVANO?
The players coming and leaving was done by mutual agreement between the club and myself. The objective was to sign four players within the economic parameters which is essential for the continuity of the club. I think it was a balanced approach.

Who is the favourite to claim the championship?
Luparense because they are the reigning champions and they are coached by the best coach in Italy, which is Collini.

Which player will be the surprise success of the championship?
Salas from Lazio.

On Saturday you start the league against Putignano. What is your prediction?
We are two of the teams with the most changes in the squad from last season. Therefore we are not sure what to expect from them. We play at their hall and it will be very hot due to the climate there.

What is your opinion on Agla’s products?
They are very good and always ready to meet our requirements.

Which product do you like the most?
The balls are the best.
