Education and Futsal Scholarship

Mon 17 Sep 2012

by Mark Farmer

Details on United's Education and Futsal Scholarship.

The course will meet the needs of those aspiring to a career in sport and the health and leisure industry.

The broad study base and range of qualifications available provides a variety of experiences and the opportunity to acquire knowledge across a diverse range of subjects. It is available to both boys and girls aged 16-18-years-old.

WHAT DOES THE COURSE INVOLVE?

The course is two years in duration.

Timetable

Monday, Tuesday and Thursday: Futsal (9-11am) based at the Point4 Arena in Hereford.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday: Education (1-3:30pm) based at Edgar Street, home of Hereford United.

Wednesday: Matchday fixtures competing in the Football League Trust Futsal League.

Education

Eight hours a week. Students will be based at Hereford United’s Edgar Street ground for three afternoons and one morning a week. The BTEC course includes a mix of theory and practical lessons relating to sport, recreation, leisure and physical education. The course content is very broad as it caters for all interests. Units range from physiology and nutrition to performance analysis and psychology.

There are no exams, so students are assessed through a variety of coursework-based methods, including case studies, observation of practical work, assignments, time-constrained assessments and work-based projects.

Assignments will include: individual research, practical assessments, surveys, project work, oral presentations, visual displays and role play. Work is marked at Distinction, Merit and Pass grades.

Futsal

Eight hours a week including training and matches.

Students will train three mornings a week on the specialist Futsal court at The Point4 Arena in Hereford, home of the England International Futsal Team. By playing Futsal, players will improve dramatically.

The simple formula of fewer players and a smaller pitch ensures players touch the ball more often and have to make more decisions.

The low bounce of the ball also helps precise control and develops confidence. Coached by Hereford United’s highly qualified Community Coaches, students will also improve their movement, passing and finishing. The team will then play competitive matches in the Football League Trust Futsal League.

WHAT CAN I DO AFTER THE COURSE?

The course not only serves as a route to full-time employment within sports related fields, it is also a proven progression route to higher education, such as university.

WHAT OTHER SKILLS WILL I ACQUIRE?

In addition to theoretical knowledge and practical sports skills, you will also develop skills which help prepare you for life after college, whether this is the workplace, university or social situations. These include communication skills, how to work as part of a team and how to deal with responsibility.

WHAT WILL I NEED FOR THE COURSE?

At least four GCSEs grades A*-C, English and Science preferred, or a Merit profile in a relevant Level 2 qualification.

WHAT MAKES THIS COURSE SPECIAL?

Excellent Teaching and Coaching
Students will experience personalised provision in the classroom with use of an impressive learning platform. The interactive online platform ensures all students’ work is kept safely in one place, they can work from home and their progress can be monitored by them, the teacher or their parents at any time.

They will also develop as players due to the high-quality coaching they will receive from our very own qualified coaches at Hereford United.

COMPETITIVE LEAGUE FIXTURES

Students will compete for Hereford United Football Club against Football League Clubs in the Football League Trust Futsal League. Their progress will be well documented on the league website, which includes tables, fixtures, results, match reports and stats, run by TVS Education.

WORK EXPERIENCE OPPORTUNITIES

Students will have the opportunity to work alongside Hereford United community coaches in schools and clubs to develop their coaching profile. There are also opportunities for those interested in communications, media and commercial careers to gain experience in other departments of the club.

HEREFORD UNITED

Students will be provided with Hereford United kit to wear at all times. Based at the Edgar Street stadium, they will represent the club in all that they do, helping out on matchdays and at other club events.

Places are still available on this course at the present time.
