Crystal Palace FCFutsal and Education ProgrammeFutsal Festival at the Birmingham Futsal Arena 12th September. It was an early morning 7.30am meet for the new Futsal and Education Scholars from Crystal Palace FC. We were on our way to one of the three Football League Trusts’ Futsal Festivals that were taking place across England.
The lads had been in for only one very impressive training session with Foundation Football Development Officer Michael Harrington the day before and were ready for their first real taste of Futsal. After negotiating traffic we arrived with just two minutes to spare before our first game against West Brom, and after a not unexpected slow start Team 1 we were unlucky to lose 2-1, having blasted the woodwork on three separate occasions. Team 2 started with a hard earned 2-2 draw with Hereford and the speed and technique of a great game was evident for all to see.
As the day went on the lads really grew into the Festival, notching up some impressive victories, including 8-0 and 5-0 vitctories in 10 minute matches.
By the end of the day all 10 of our outfield players had scored, and clean sheets were kept between the sticks. Coach Michael summed it up, saying: “What a great day. I couldn’t have asked for any more from the lads. The Futsal we played was fast and sharp with a real positive attitude. These boys look dangerous when going forward, with goals spread throughout the team, and our defensive shape and goalkeeping was a joy to watch. Bring on the rest of the season.”
The Futsal and Education Scholarship is currently running at Selhurst Park Stadium. This fantastic two year course gives 16 and 17 year olds the opportunity to be part of the Crystal Palace Foundation Futsal Team whilst studying for a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma.
We still have up to 4 spaces to fill on this course with an enrolment deadline of 29th September 2012.
So, what are you waiting for? If you are 16 or 17 and want to join us contact Michael Harrington at Crystal Palace FC on 020 8768 6062 or michael.harrington@cpfc.co.uk
