This is LeicestershireFootball for all is the aimThursday, August 30, 2012There is some great work being done in Leicestershire and Rutland in terms of disability and inclusive football.
At present, the spotlight is on the London 2012 Paralympic Games, where football will be centre stage in two very different and unique forms.
The first is blind futsal (a version of football played indoors originating from Spain), and the second the more common format of five and seven-a-side for players with cerebral palsy.
The Riverbank Arena in the Olympic Park will play host to the competition. The opening games for the GB teams will be tomorrow for blind futsal and Saturday for the cerebral palsy teams.
The hope for our county is that the Paralympic Games will impact on disabled youngsters and adults, both males and females, and inspire them to take part in football.
Leicestershire is the base for the East Midlands Blind Futsal Centre of Excellence.
We are always looking to recruit potential players, who are blind or who have very low vision, yet wish to get involved in playing football and having a great time despite their impairment or disability.
Cerebral palsy is also another key group, and we work with the national FA to provide an opportunity for players at all levels, from grassroots to Paralympics.
The County FA is also very proud of its network of inclusive football clubs.
Here, a fantastic core of volunteers, supported by the Leicestershire & Rutland Inclusive Football Charity, provide regular training and playing opportunities for males and females of all ages who have a learning, physical or sensory impairment/disability.
For further formation on inclusive (disability) football, contact Mary Rudkin (disability football development officer) on 0116 2844952 or email: Mary.Rudkin@LeicestershireFA.com
Finally I would like to remind you of the survey currently being ran by the County FA.
By taking the time to respond you will help guide the future of football in this area. It will only take a couple of minutes to complete. Go to: www.leicestershirefa.com
