Spireites offer diploma opportunities

Friday 24 August 2012 11:59

Chesterfield FC’s Community Trust has educational opportunities for sporty teenagers.

There are places available on a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport, alongside becoming one of the club’s Futsal squad which is part of a national programme supported by the Football League Trust.

It is an opportunity for youngsters who want to combine a first class education alongside training and playing Futsal for Chesterfield FC.

Futsal is the FIFA-approved indoor football game which is played throughout the world but is particularly popular in Brazil, South America and Spain.

Chesterfield’s squad will be playing their games a little closer to home and are in a league with clubs such as Derby County, Nottingham Forest, Wolverhampton Wanderers, Walsall and Crewe Alexandra.

The scheme is for youngsters aged 16 or 17 (on or before 31/8/12) and it will allow them the opportunity to gain qualifications to work in the sports industry.

The qualification is the equivalent of three A Levels and for those interested in higher education, it will give the participants the opportunity to gain the relevant number of points for a university place. Due to the level of the course, applicants are expected to have or be predicted a minimum of four GCSEs at Grade C or above, preferably including English and maths.

As part of the course, learners will also develop coaching skills through both FA-approved qualifications and through gaining practical experience on our community coaching programme.

The Spireites Community Trust is keen to stress that this is an opportunity for young men and women and the trust particularly wants teenage girls to get in touch.

A number of places are left on the programme and anybody interested in further information should contact Kay Adkins on 01246 209765 (option 8) or email kayadkins@chesterfield-fc.co.uk as soon as possible for application details.
