Patrick BaloyiNational Indoor Football (Futsal) officials and players have accused the SA Football Association of owing more them R800000 in unpaid wages for the past four months.
Eight technical team members including former under-23 coach Mackey Chenia and 16 players said since signing the assignment contract, that is in possession of The New Age, in April this year, they had not been paid.
The assignment contract categorically stipulates that in return for the services rendered by the assignee, the assignor shall compensate the assignee at an all-inclusive amount per day.
According to the team’s captain, Gift Mashaba, they are owed more than R800000 for the home and away games against Mozambique, Zimbabwe and Libya during the Futsal World Cup qualifiers.
“It is true that we have not been paid for the past four months and every time we enquire what is happening, we are told that the association is having financial problems,” said Mashaba.
“We have families to feed; since we were knocked out by Libya in June, it’s difficult to get hold of them.” Safa’s director of national teams Ace Kika said: “The association is seriously looking into the matter.”
