Futsal league' top performers cited

The 2012 Saipan Soccer School Summer Futsal League concluded last Friday with the awarding of trophies and medals to outstanding individuals and teams in a brief ceremony at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.

Leading the list of awardees was the unbeaten Wild Bill's, which ruled the five-team men's division. The champion team was composed of Jack Thoensaket, Tanapon Unsa, Greg Borja, Adul Detdon, Lar Wonpariya, Kai Khamka, and Konkoed. Wild Bill's swept all eight matches in the double-round robin competition, earning 24 points and 85 goals.

The newly crowned champion had the second most goals scored in the men's league, behind the 88 of runner-up Godfather's, but topped the goal difference ranking with its 63 after giving up only 22. Godfather's gave up 43 for a goal difference of 45. Rounding out the men's division were Shirley's Coffee Shop (3-0-5 win-draw-loss card), IT&E (2-0-6), and Go Green (1-0-7).

In the women's division, Shirley's Coffee Shop was awarded the championship trophy after posting a 7-2-1 record in the six-team field. Shirley's also logged the most goals in the division with 43 and gave up only for a best goal difference of 24.

The champion team had 11 members in goalies Angie Ito and Neeka Atalig, Liz Phan, Kaiza Lucido, Yvonne Indalencio, Mary Urena, Irish Pagarao, Dianne Pablo, Charlene Lizardo, Maica Aniana, and Jeraldine Castillo. Shirley's defeated Wild Bill's (6-2-2), Xerox (5-1-4), Baked Girls (4-1-5), IT&E Awesome (4-1-5), and Mellow Yellow (0-1-9).

The boys U18 crown went to the IP&E-sponsored Astig Futsal, who swept the three-round robin competition that also featured the Thundercats (5-0-4), IT&E (1-0-8), and Mean Machine (0-0-9).

Astig Futsal collected division's best 89 goals and allowed only 21 (the least in the group). The team was composed of Jeff Palacios, Kenneth Domingo, Tanapon Unsa, Konkoed, Marc Mora, Oliver Lumad, Billy Hinson, Woo Seok Choi, and Joshua Galarion.

In the two-team battle for the boys U14 championship, IT&E prevailed over Astig Futsal, as the former posted four wins against the latter. IT&E players include Bada lee, Moris Villanueva, Jeremie Tanghal, John Masga, Greg Sablan, Jullien Pelligrino, Christian Valenzuela, Sun Joon Tenorio, Dakota Hall, Wataru Tajima, and John Taisacan.

Perpetual trophies were handed out to the division champions, while organizers presented plaques to Fair Play awardees-Go Green Team (men's), Mellow Yellow (women's), Astig (U18), and IT&E (U14).

League officials and SSS president Jerry Tan also recognized the Golden Boot winners in the four divisions: Thoensaket (men's), Pagarao (women's), Unsa (U18), and Taisacan (U14). All four received medals for scoring the most goals in their respective divisions.
