Roselyn MonroyoShirley's Coffee Shop was crowned champion in the women's division of the 2012 Saipan Soccer School Summer Futsal League last Saturday after shutting out Xerox, 7-0, at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.
Last Saturday was the final day of the double-round robin competition in the futsal league with Shirley's finishing on top of the six-team field with its 7-2-1 win-draw-loss record. The newly crowned champion defeated Wild Bill's, which earned a 6-2-2 card. Xerox placed third with its 5-1-4 card, followed by Baked Girls (4-1-5), IT&E Awesome (4-1-5), and Mellow Yellow (0-1-9).
Going into the last day of the women's league, Shirley's needed only a draw to clinch the crown, however Irish Pagarao and company would not settle for a tie, as they attacked Xerox's defense early en route to the shutout victory. Pagarao drew first blood with a left cross in the third minute while Jeraldine Castillo scored from the opposite end two minutes later. Yvonne Indalecio and Dianne Pablo also made it to the scoreboard in the first half for their 4-0 halftime lead. Pagarao, Indalecio, and Castillo also found the back of the net in the second half to complete Shirley's domination of Xerox.
Baked Girls 4, Mellow Yellow 3Baked Girls ended their campaign in the women's league on a winning note, downing Mellow Yellow last Saturday.
Coquino Teregeyo drilled a pair of goals in the second half to lead Baked Girls' victory. Cristy Villaflor also had twin goals for Mellow Yellow, making all of them in the first half for their 2-1 advantage. Anne Padilla nailed the lone goal for Baked Girls in the first 25 minutes of play.
Teregeyo then stepped up in the second half, while Cleo Nening added one to steal the win. Maile Aldrich gave Mellow Yellow its only goal in the final frame.
IT&E Awesome 4, Baked Girls 0IT&E Awesome also earned a win in its last game of the season, blanking Baked Girls last Friday.
The victory was fourth in a row for IT&E Awesome, which had four different players scoring in its final game in the women's league. Ana Hilario and Jeralyn Castillo hit one goal apiece in the first half, while Marie Bucalig and Clarice Mendoza also drained one each in the second.
Meanwhile, the three other matches over the weekend were decided via forfeits.
In the boys U18, IT&E won over the no-show Mean Machine, while Shirley's and Wild Bill's got a free victories against IT&E in the men's division.
Wild Bill's finished the league undefeated in eight games and will be receiving the men's championship trophy in the awards ceremony set for tomorrow at 7:30pm at the TSL Sports Complex.
Joining Wild Bill's in the champions circle are boys U18's Astig Futsal and U14's IT&E.
