Thundercats roar past Mean Machine

The Thundercats are up on their feet again, following a 10-1 spanking of the Mean Machine in their game in the boys U18 division of the 2012 Saipan Soccer School Summer Futsal League last Monday night at the TSL Sports Complex in Gualo Rai.

The Thundercats' demolition of Mean Machine came a few days after the former suffered a 3-9 defeat at the hands of the league-leading Astig. With the victory, the Thundercats improved to a 3-0-3 win-draw-loss record for third place in the team standings, while Mean Machine remained winless in six games. Astig Futsal (4-0-0) and IT&E (3-0-1) round out the field.

Don Cabrera led the Thundercats' early recovery, scoring three goals in the first half. Raphael Zapanta and Makani Gramlich added two each, while Timothy Tawanpiy and Juanito Tiamzon chipped in one apiece. All of the Thundercats' goals were made in the first 25 minutes of the game and so far they have collected 21 goals-the third best in the league behind Astig's 52 and IT&E's 36.

Mean Machine, which played with only five players thus have limited option on offense, got its lone goal from Mark King in the first half. With its one goal in last Monday's game, Mean Machine upped its total in six games to five.

In the U14 division, IT&E posted its second straight win over Astig Futsal, 11-5.

Dakota Hall returned to action and nailed six goals, while John Taisacan contributed three. Sun Joon Tenorio also made it to the scoreboard with a pair. IT&E, which drew its first two matches against the IP&E-sponsored Astig Futsal, got all five goals in the first half.

Astig Futsal also scored the five goals in the opening 25 minutes of the match, however all five came from Joshua Galarion.

In the men's division, IT&E was also victorious, thumping Shirley's Coffee Shop, 7-2.

A 4-0 lead in the first half was enough to ensure IT&E's second victory in six matches and snap its three-game losing streak. Nonoa Caleb and Peder drilled two goals apiece in IT&E's strong start, while Josh Borja also had a pair in the second half, and Roding Domingo logged the other goal in the final frame.

Jack Phan and Russell Zapanta had one goal each for Shirley's, which dropped from third to fourth place in the five-team field with its 1-0-4 slate.

In the women's division, IT&E Awesome forced a 1-1 draw against the league-leading Shirley's (5-2-1)

Jaime Mendoza recorded the lone goal for IT&E Awesome (1-1-5) in the second half, while Shirley's also logged its only goal in the final frame, courtesy of Irish Pagarao.
