Ting Tieng HeeJuly 27, 2012, FridayKUCHING: Futsal enthusiasts are invited to sign up for the country’s biggest circuit ever, the Pan Wave 5 Fever tournament which offers attractive prizes worth RM30,000.
The event which includes 16 circuits nationwide kicked off with the East Malaysia Zone with the first circuit held at Samarahan on July 14 with 16 teams joining the fray.
Similar circuits will be held in Sibu, Bintulu, Miri, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching soon.
In the West Malaysia Zone, the event started with the Kuala Lumpur circuit on July 8 and will be followed by Pahang, Johor, Perak, Selangor, Melaka, Pulau Pinang and Negeri Sembilan.
According to East Malaysia Zone tournament director, Wan Noor Rashiddyee Abd Rasad the tourney is the largest to be held in Malaysia with a maximum of 64 teams taking part in each circuit.
“The champions and runners-up from each circuit will qualify for the grand final play-offs, with RM500, eight pairs of Pan Wave 5 limited edition futsal shoes and return air tickets for the grand finals will be awarded to the champions of each circuit,” he said at a press conference at the Sarawak State Library yesterday.
The play-offs for the grand final will be held in Selangor from Nov 3 to 4 and the final will be held in Kuala Lumpur.
Runners-up of each circuit will get RM300, eight pairs of Pan Wave 5 Sensation futsal shoes and return air tickets to the grand final while the third and fourth placings will each receive RM200 and Pan Wave brand merchandise.
“The grand final champions will get a total prize money worth RM30,000 which include 4 days 3 nights trip to Bangkok, Thailand, tickets to watch FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand final match and RM500 pocket money for each player,” said Wan Noor.
Second prize is RM5,000 and merchandise while third prize is RM2,000 and merchandise.
He said the champion team will play for Pan Wave in the Asia Zone futsal tournament is based on FIFA’s futsal league format and only the men’s competition is being organised.
Players who have represented the country and state such as Felda League, FAM Super and Premier Leagues, national leagues and Sukma from year 2010 to 2012 are not eligible to play in this tournament.
“Each team is only allowed to register two foreign imports and a maximum of eight members including the team captain and manager,” Wan Noor said.
The players are allowed to register with other teams in other circuits when their original team have lost in any of the circuits of the competition,” said Wan Noor.
