Yorkshire Evening PostFutsal: New Leeds soccer centre nets a jobs boostTuesday 10 July 2012An international football arena dedicated to playing futsal – the five-a-side game developed in South America – is to open in Leeds creating 30 jobs.
Work is currently underway to convert a warehouse at Millshaw Park, near the White Rose Shopping Centre, in to the centre that will have eight pitches, changing rooms, a bar, coffee lounge and conference room.
Due to open next month, the new Leeds arena will be managed by @Futsal, which already runs centres in Cardiff, Swindon and Europe’s largest Futsal facility in Birmingham.
It will run adult and youth futsal tournaments every night and is also expected to stage officially recognised international five-a-side matches.
Futsal, which is FIFA recognised, is played with a smaller ball than normal which bounces less to encourage control and passing.
Frank Rodriguez, the company’s managing director, said: “Yorkshire is a hotbed of football and it seemed logical to give the area a chance to join in the fun. Leeds is an excellent base from which to launch ourselves in the region.”
