FA National Youth Futsal Festival
East Midlands excel in Youth Futsal Finals

08 July 2012

Three National champions and a host of super displays were the result as the East Midlands region impressed at the recent FA Youth Futsal Festival in Birmingham.

160 teams from across the country descended onto the International Futsal Arena to battle it out for the right to be crowned FA National Youth Futsal Champions.

East Midlands regional representatives, who had started their journeys at the various County FA festivals and leagues which culminated in a fantastic East Midland’s Youth Festival hosted at Trent University in Nottingham in May, impressed throughout the two day event and showed the great strides that have been taken in Futsal within the region across the past few seasons.

East Midlands Qualifiers:
U10s Boys – Oadby Owls (Leicestershire) & Whitemoor Primary School (Nottinghamshire)
U10s Girls - FC Aztecs Girls (Northamptonshire)
U12s Boys - Blidworth SR Elite Coaching (Nottinghamshire) & Grimsby Soccer Club (Lincolnshire)
U12s Girls - South Charnwood High School (Leicestershire) & Corby United (Northamptonshire)
U14s Boys - Ibstock United (Leicestershire) & Colsterworth Colts (Lincolnshire)
U14s Girls - The Gedling School (Nottinghamshire) & Solar Girls (Lincolnshire)
U16s Boys - Humberston Boys (Lincolnshire) & St Andrews (Leicestershire)
U16s Girls - Beaumont Leys (Leicestershire)

Blidworth SR Elite Coaching, a Nottinghamshire based side, who qualified through a tournament organised by Derbyshire officials, set the tone for the weekend with a well structured game plan and some fast flowing play which saw them lift the U12s Boys’ title at close of play on Saturday.

They were joined on Sunday by St Andrew’s from Leicestershire, who built on their previous appearances and experiences at the FA Youth Futsal Finals and proved too strong for the competition in the U16s Boys’ competition. Their emphatic triumph was rounded off with a 9-1 demolition of their opponents, Franks Tanks in the final.

Nottinghamshire’s Gedling School became the third East Midland’s champions, with hard work and a tremendous team spirit taking them to the Under 14’s Girls’ National crown.

With the 2012/13 regional finals moving to Northamptonshire, Youth Futsal in the East Midlands is beginning to take off. The success of this season’s finalists and the reward of three National championships is a fine example of what future success may lie ahead for the region.
