M.R. Sukhumbhand Paribatra, the governer of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), along with Vijay Chauhan, National Manager of ADIDAS (Thailand) Co.Ltd. and Worawi Makudi, FIFA Executive Member and the president of Football Association of Thailand (FAT), launched the first ADIDAS Giant Ball in Bangkok.
Chauhan reaffirmed that 2012 will be a historic year for futsal in Thailand, with the tournament not only a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, but also a dream come true for all Thai and South East Asian Futsal fans, when the very top futsal nations will compete for the title of world champions.
“We are really looking forward to the event and also want to help with practical support for key projects and activities,"Chauhan said. "I do hope that all participants will enjoy their stay here, play their best and get to know more about Thailand and the fantastic Thai culture."
The ADIDAS Giant Ball will be on display night and day in the Thai capital until the end of the tournament on 18 November. In order to generate further support and grassroots interest in futsal, the BMA will host the Bangkok 2012 Futsal Tournament in August, with all 50 districts - including more than a thousand teams - taking part. The final will be in October.
Mr Worawi Makudi also confirmed that this will be the nucleus of a big push ahead of hosting these global finals. “We will do our very best to reach the standard of FIFA for the success of this World Cup” he said.
On 18 July, a second ADIDAS Giant Ball will be launched at the city plaza of Nakon Ratchasima, the north-eastern province in which games will also be played during the FIFA Futsal World Cup.
