Wilts and Gloucestershire StandardEllie Olds stars in FGR title win in BirminghamWednesday 4th July 2012THE Forest Green Rovers U16s girls team have won the FUTSAL National Finals in Birmingham having qualified as South West Regional winners.
A nervous 1-1 draw against the Liverpool-based ‘Mersey Girls’ was followed by a brilliant 3-0 win over Leicester, with a hat-trick from captain Ellie Olds from Fairford.
A subsequent goalless draw and comfortable win saw the girls earn a semi final against last year’s winners Acton.
Sophie Knight eased the tension with an early goal against Acton and that is how the score remained.
The final against the Frances Bardsley team was even more tense and the teams could not be separated, the 0-0 draw taking them through to a penalty shoot-out which Forest Green won 3-1.
Victory topped off a memorable season for the girls who also won their league and County Cup. Team members are now destined for the Chelsea and Bristol Academies, while some are progressing into the Ladies Team at Forest Green Rovers.
