Burlingame PatchBurlingame Athletes Head to National Tournament, Hold FundraisersThis article was submitted by Burlingamer, an indoor soccer and futsal facility in Burlingame, and was written by Roberta Chopra.June 21, 2012A small group of hardworking girls are preparing to make their communities proud. The California Gamers, a local team of players under the age of 12, is on its way to Anaheim in July. The Gamers have a single goal in mind: winning the national title in futsal.
This July, the US Futsal Federation will host its 27th national tournament. The Federation has been the governing body of futsal in the US since 1981. Under their able coaches, Mike Varas and Jen Short, the California Gamers competed in an older division in February to qualify for the national tournament.
This national tournament will be a first for the Gamers, who are comprised of motivated girls from Burlingame, Palo Alto, and San Mateo. The girls have been playing since the age of 4, and are now looking forward to fulfilling their dreams of playing against great teams on a national stage.
The Gamers are running, dribbling, and juggling--not even the hot weather can stop them. But the Gamers could use your help. The team will wash cars and run an estate sale to fund the team's expenses for the tournament:
The Gamer Car Wash is on Sunday, June 24, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The Gamer Estate Sale is on Saturday, June 30 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.
The team will host both events at The Burlingamer, 1864 Rollins Road in Burlingame. The Gamers thank The Burlingamer for sponsoring them!
