Port Macquarie NewsLocals fire in Taree futsal25 Jan, 2012THE NNSW Vikings Futsal Premier League final round and finals were played at Taree on Sunday.
The competition was very close and the final games of the round decided who was to play in the final.
Lismore were front runners in the men’s during the competition rounds and took out the final for the third year.
Runners up were the Port Macquarie Westpac Pirates.
They had a slow start to the competition, but stormed home to reach the final before going down to Lismore 6 - 3.
The women’s fourth round was to decide who would make the final.
Coffs Harbour was leading coming into the round with Lismore in second and the Port women one point behind in third.
Port Macquarie had not lost a game in their last two rounds of the competition and coach Alison Fazzolari was quietly confident of taking out the cup.
The games were tough and the Port women stood up and finished on top in the final where they played Lismore.
Lismore had won the last three titles with Port always sitting behind.
There were a few injuries on the day and both teams fought out the final with Port Macquarie winning 7 - 4.
Vikings Futsal has expanded their player base taking in Taree, Newcastle, Hunter, and Inland.
