KUCHING: The men’s and women’s futsal squads of Santubong will be among six teams representing Kuching at the 1 Belia 1 Malaysia Futsal Championship (National Level) 2012 which will be held in Putrajaya from January 20 to 22.

Participating for the third time at the annual futsal championship, the squads will vye for the championship titles which include cash prizes of RM20,000 for the winning men’s squad and RM10,000 for the winning women’s squad.

Santubong member of parliament Datuk Wan Junaidi Wan Jaafar yesterday congratulated both teams on their achievement in emerging as the top six teams of Kuching district.

“I am proud of the teams’ performance and also confident that they will be able to take on the challenge to uphold their image as well as to make the State proud,” said Junaidi at the handing over ceremony of the squads’ jerseys.

Junaidi, who also contributed RM4,000 to the teams, pointed out that winning the championship would not be an easy feat.

“However, strive for the best, aim for the title and I believe you can all do it,” he said, adding that he would match the amount of cash prizes won by either team if they managed to rise to the occasion. Santubong, who managed to reach the 3rd round of the championship last year, will be joined by Mas Gading, Petra Jaya, Kuching, Stampin and Mambong at the three-day futsal tournament beginning this Friday.
