Camden Haven CourierBowls fundraiser to help Caleb chase his Futsal dream11 Jan, 2012CALEB Creighton is working hard to fundraise for the opportunity of a lifetime - a sporting tour of the United Kingdom.
The 14-year-old Camden Haven High School student will represent Australia as part of the Vikings Futsal Association’s under 15s international tour.
Futsal is an official indoor soccer game endorsed by international soccer body FIFA. There are five players per team who play a speedy version of soccer on a smaller, indoor field.
A sporting natural, Caleb worked his way through the representative ranks to earn his place on the Australian team.
He began playing at Camden Haven High, was selected to represent the school, then the region, the state and now the country.
“This will be the experience of a lifetime,” said proud mum Cathy Lynch.
“The team will travel to the United Kingdom in April and train with the Rhyl Football Club which is a base for the Everton FC Foundation Academy.
“During the tour Caleb will gain skills from training with Everton and Manchester City staff coaches and players. He will also be able to compete in matches against the local clubs.”
Caleb has only been playing Futsal for 12 months and outdoor soccer for 3 seasons.
The tour will be his first overseas trip and he is naturally excited.
“I’m heaps excited,” he Caleb said.
“To be able to travel to the UK will be great. We do a bit of sightseeing too but I’m going to really train hard and take on what this experience will bring.”
To help him on his way, Caleb is working with the team at the Camden Haven Golf Club to host a fundraising bowls day.
“Roll up for Caleb” kicks off on January 28, 10am-noon.
Cost is $13.50 per person which includes instruction, bowls and sausage sandwich.
All proceeds will go towards funding Caleb’s International Futsal Tour to England and to attend training, development and participate in National level games.
“If you are unable to attend on the day any financial assistance would be very much appreciated,” Cathy said.
To book your place at the bowls event, contact 6559 4836 or 0416 526923 by January 20 or email cate.anth@bigpond.com.
