Luca Ranocchiari - Futsalplanet.com editorDay 8 of the
UMBRO Futsal Awards 2011 - 12th Edition by Futsalplanet.com. Today is time to find out the
Best Club of the World in the year 2011 and that was probably the hardest choice of this edition. A lot of international and domestic competitions have highlighted the good performances of many clubs, but it seems that this edition is "talking italian" so that the winner of the
Best Club of the World Category is
Montesilvano!
1984-2011, tradition is the keyTough crossing through different mergers and denomination changes, the current
Città di Montesilvano Calcio a Cinque is one of the oldest italian clubs still "alive" on the national stage. In contrast with the modern trend of some sport clubs (immediate results, fast disappearance) Montesilvano then had to wait in order to get the dreamed glory. Probably the italian title conquered in 2010 was not enough for them, able to shock Europe with the most unexpected (at least for those who believe to know everything about futsal and were so disappointed!) title in Almaty, Kazakhstan.
Cinderella's dream came trueMontesilvano reached the cold Almaty withouth the spotlights focused on their roster. On the opposite, everybody was sure they were the weakest team in Kazakhstan (not even their win in the Ekaterinburg group on November 2010 was able to provide them with the deserved credits), with no chances to succeed. Also, how can a final four be played without spanish club/s (probably cause ElPozo was not able to qualify against an impressive Sporting in Odivelas, is our smart answer!) was the brilliant introduction to the event. Superficial analysis disassembled by a perfect machine: Montesilvano.
"E' anche per te"The post-final dedication to
Corrado Roma (former player and coach of the club, who passed away in 2004) says everything on the club and team spirit. A roster done by humble and hard workers players was the main reason for the Almaty triumph. An unforgettable achievement that has changed all clichés about continental futsal.
DevelopmentWhile the boys at Montesilvano could not revalidate the italian title in season 10/11, another triumph characterized the Montesilvano's winning year. We refer to the women futsal title, conquered on past June in the final eight played in Ciampino. The
Francesca Salvatore's girls got the deserved title in the eagerly awaited final vs the "hosting" club
Virtus Roma with
Alessia Guidotti being named as best player of the tournament. In a club history, this is development as well.
All of them were good reasons to crown Montesilvano as winner of the
Best Club of the World category for the
