The CourierFutsal's most promising to compete in Canberraby
Pat Nolan22 Dec, 2011TWO of Ballarat’s most promising futsal players are off to Canberra.
Joe Dodd and Tina Benoit have both been selected to represent Victoria at the upcoming Football Federation Australia National Futsal Championships, to be held in January.
Dodd will play in the under-12 category and Benoit will represent the open women’s squad.
The pair advanced through a rigorous selection process, in which they proved their worth following initial selection based on impressive performances during the state championships in October.
Dodd said he looked forward to testing himself against other outstanding athletes and rated Victoria’s chances highly.
“It will be great to test myself against the best players in Australia and I think our squad will be very competitive,” he said.
Benoit, who also plays for the Ballarat Lady Devils in outdoor soccer, said playing on a national level would be a fantastic experience.
“Most of our squad play in the Victoria Premier League so the girls can all play quality futsal. The Championships will be a great challenge and I can’t wait to get out on court in Canberra,” said Benoit.
Futsal Ballarat director Andrew Burgess believed the pair would easily be able to match it with the best players in the country.
The FFA championship is the largest football tournament in Australia, attracting up to 2000 competitors from Australian states, territories and several nations within the Oceania region.
