Futsal National League on SkyDecember 22, 2011AUCKLAND – New Zealand sports fans will be able to get a taste of the world’s fastest growing indoor sport when highlights of series one of the ASB Futsal National League air on Sky TV this January.
New Zealand Football commissioned Christchurch-based production company Shuriken to produce the highlights package, with support from ASB helping to secure airtime for all three series of the national league’s second season.
Series one was held at Dunedin’s Edgar Centre earlier this month with series two scheduled for February at Auckland’s ASB Stadium and the league culminating at Wellington’s ASB Sports Centre in March.
New Zealand Football’s Futsal Development Manager Dave Payne said the coverage would attract even more players to a game that it beginning to take off in centres around New Zealand.
“TV is a wonderful shop window to showcase the sport and I’m sure the highlights will pique the interest of viewers who haven’t been exposed to the sport before,” Payne said.
“The fast pace of futsal and the indoor setting make it an ideal spectator sport and some of the games from the first series were really entertaining.”
Auckland Football’s AFF-East City Futsal lead the standings after the first series, with surprise package Mainland Futsal the next best in the seven team federation-based league.
