December 18, 2011

ALOR SETAR -- The Kedah Youth and Sports Department plans to
build more than 20 new futsal courts in the state next year to compliment the 80 courts completed until last month.

Its director Aziz Hamid said the plan was in line with the federal government's call for at least one futsal court in every township.

He said the courts would be build at cost of RM150,000 each and equipped with basic facilities, including the installation of lights so that it can be used at night.

"The project is aimed at attracting more youths to play futsal instead of involving in unhealthy social activities," he told reporters after attending a sports for all programme here Saturday night.

Aziz said the department received an allocation of RM1 million and a major portion of that allocation was used for the development of sports in each district.
