No joy for Offaly sides in Leinster Futsal Finals

Kilkenny ladies Grennan College and Meath men St Peter’s College were crowned FAI Schools First Year Futsal Leinster Champions last week in the wonderful surrounds of Franciscan College, Gormanston.

Offaly were represented in the Boys competition by Colaiste Choilm and in the Girls by Killina.

Colaiste Choilm were very impressive in the group stages with three wins against Gorey Community School (3-0), Pipers Hill (2-1) and St. Kieran’s (2-0) before losing out to Lucan’s Scoil Cois Life 0-3. Their final game was a 1-1 with Drogheda Grammar.

Stephen Leonard scored a hat-trick of goals in Tullamore’s endeavours while Ryan Sheridan, Ethan Morris Gorman and Aaron Leavy put in some outstanding performances and also got their names on the score sheets.

Unfortunately Moylan and O’Neill’s side could do nothing about their earlier encounter as the Lucan lads went on to top Group 1 and advance to the final stages leaving the Tullamore lads to rue their one defeat.

Killina were in action for the first time in the Girls competition having recently won the Offaly title. They will have learned a lot from their three games and they were unlucky not to get at least one win on the board.

They lost 2-1 to St Peter’s, 6-3 to Grennan College and 2-0 to Loreto. Grennan College went on to win the competition.

Futsal is a fast moving five-a-side indoor game where the rules are designed to discourage time wasting. The game develops speed, technique, skill and quick thinking of a player and is an excellent game for all young players and it certainly contributes immensely to the development of the young player.
